Appendix 722. Airport Environs District (AE).

Latest version.
  • Intent. The purpose of the Airport Environs District is to promote and protect the general health and welfare of persons who live, work, or travel in the vicinity of Horry County's major airport installations, in addition to preventing the impairment of the airports and protecting the public investments therein. It is the intent of this district to guide, control, and regulate future growth and development in designated areas around these airports by promoting orderly and appropriate uses of land within these areas.

722.1 Location. Airport Environs Districts shall be established in designated areas around the following airports: Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, Grand Strand Airport, Conway-Horry County Airport, and Loris Twin City Airport. Lands within these Airport Environs Districts are designated by a zone number which corresponds to appropriate restrictions within that particular zone related to height, electrical interference, illumination, or other interferences. Specific restrictions and regulations may be found in the Airport Safety Zoning Ordinances for the individual airports.

722.2 Supplemental Restrictions. Inasmuch as the Airport Environs Districts provide supplemental regulations for those areas within the individual districts, these regulations shall not provide relief from the requirements for the traditional zoning districts over which the AED boundaries are imposed. The regulations related to minimum lot areas, setbacks, use restrictions, etc., shall remain in effect.
