§ 12.5-126. Solicitation of business.

  • (a)

    It shall be unlawful for the owner or agent of any wrecker or towing service to drive along or park on any street, bridge, or highway for the purpose of soliciting wrecker or towing service. In the event of mechanical failures not caused by an accident, the operator of the disabled vehicle shall be allowed to call a wrecker or towing service of their choice, provided that no wrecker or towing service shall provide such services unless it possesses an Horry County business license for such services.

    (b)

    It shall be unlawful for any Horry County employee to solicit business for any wrecker or towing service and any employee guilty of violating this provision shall be subject to discharge from employment.

    (c)

    It shall be unlawful for any owner, agent or driver of a towing service to entice or engage an Horry County employee to solicit business for the towing service in exchange for anything of value, as that term is defined by S.C. Code, section 8-13-100(1). Any towing service engaging in such conduct shall forfeit its eligibility for call on the Horry County wrecker zone rotation list and, in addition, be subject to any other penalties provided for by state or local law.
